When flying with an Elytra, even when landing slowly and gentle sometimes you die from fall damage when you shouldn't be taking any fall damage from traveling upward.  I've had this happen to me going up to an End City Ship, resulting in me losing all of my stuff and just as simple as landing in front of my home.
