In survival, there are some occasions you can continue to eat even when your hunger bar is full.
It seems to be that if your hunger is low and you eat a piece of food to bring the last indicator to nearly full and continue to eat the hunger bar will fill up as normal – BUT if you then still continue to eat, you will in fact eat one more piece of food, that obviously does nothing extra.
