Sugar Cane problem

      Sugar Cane refuses to grow. It’s planted next to my house next to water and with only air above it. I’ve waited about 10 Minecraft days for it to grow and it doesn’t. I don’t know what the problem is. Just started with this most recent update to Xbox this past week.
