They keyboard does not allow input at anytime on the motorola xyboard 8.2 with android 4.0.4 (motorola's ROM)

What I expected to happen was...:
when starting a new game and asking for a name or seed, the keyboard clicks when i touch the letters but no text shows up.

What actually happened was...:
I have 2 xyboards and it is occuring on both even trying out different keyboards. My kids wants to go to a previous release when it worked. It does work fine on my Samsung S4 phone and an older motorola xoom.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. you need a motorola Xyboard 8.2 with the latest rom from motorola.
2. start a new game and try to type in a name. nothing registers.
