      I am playing on a private multiplayer survival realm and in preparation for St. Andrews Day tomorrow I was making a uniquely Scottish gift hamper. In doing so I renamed items and wrote a short excerpt in a book and quill.

      After completing the 6 pages of text I signed it so that I could then copy it, one for each player on the realm. Once the book had been signed I looked over it and found that it had been redacted in many instances. This may be due to the "smart" profanity filter although I could type each term into the chat and in one case also for use of renamed items.

      Another problematic feature of the redaction process is it reformatted the typography, making it far less accessible.

      The words redacted from the book and quill but not chat are as follows;
      – Scotch* (as in Scotch Beef/Lamb EU PGI)
      – Slaughtered
      – Whisky
      – William Wallace

      The word redacted from book and quill but not item is as follows;
      – Scotch*

      I am significantly concerned with "William Wallace" as I cannot fathom why that would be redacted, whereas Scotch and Whisky I understand are alcoholic beverages so maybe a reason to redact and slaughter could be argued is potentially an aggressive term so maybe a reason to redact it, maybe. During further testing, I found that John De Warenne (Wallace's rival counterpart at the battle of Stirling Bridge) was not redacted. I don't believe this is an indication of the organisation position on a 700-year-old battle nor do I believe it is an inadvertent declaration of the organisation's position on the political positions associated with said wars, although I still cannot explain why it was redacted.

      The terms were not filtered in chat, only on the signed book and quill.

      If both the redaction of particular words and reformatting of typography are not bugs, is there any way of getting an understanding of how the Minecraft profanity filter functions? In its current state and without any awareness of how it intends to function, it's not entirely fit for purpose.

      I have attached screenshots from Xbox one of both the chat window & book and quill.

      Kind Regards,
      DazzyB.
