Loading maps, making slight changes, even leaving or resetting the game may change or double the file size. Also to note block placing lag, chat opening lag, and chunk rendering lag that came with this.
The extended story of me discovering this:
My map size was about 30-40 MB before about a week or 2 ago, when 1.7 first came out I can assume.
Fair note: my map is large, having 700 buildings, so it may be a challenge to replicate on this scale.
I added a few more small townhouses to which I noticed that blocks I placed were invisible for a solid minute before rendering, and the chat and render distance loading were disgustingly slow. I checked the menu to see the size, thinking that may be it, and it suddenly was 78 megabytes.
I went to bed and by the time I awoke it was now over 80 mb. I tried removing some command blocks and shaving off random chunks (it is a flat world but has strange natural chunks that generate on the far wall) and when I now checked the menu it was 86 GB.
After restarting the game, it was back down to 78.
I reset my xbox after playing another game, but when I came back to Minecraft it was 151 Megabytes. Now starting to realize something was wrong, I reset the game to see what was happening. The file was now 86 MB again. I loaded the map to ensure it was still functional, and this made it grow to 100MB, which it remains at now.
I attempted to test this with any copies, which the same occurs. I used other smaller files, and each of those had similar file growth and decay. The same annoying delay bugs followed.
