I've been playing minecraft since 2013 and I made a server in early 2016, I've been enjoying this game and it's currently my favorite game.
I've been using a cracked version for a while but later I bought the original version.
So when XBox Live was required for accessing external servers, I had no problems since I already bought the game.
But, recently, I couldn't login to xbox; getting “Sorry, something went wrong. Give it another try, or try on Xbox.com”.

The privacy settings in my profile are all set to allow, including "Allow joining multiplayer games" in the XBox One tab.
I did all troubleshooting steps I found for that issue, none worked except for one, someone suggested using a VPN.
I did use it, guess what? It logged me in flawlessly and it allowed me to join external servers
I turned off the VPN, now I can't join servers anymore
So to explain this in other words
Microsoft/XBox ostracized me from accessing online minecraft gameplay due to the fact that I live in Syria and now I need to use a VPN to access my own server.
How wonderful is that?
I really appreciate it Microsoft/XBox, more than you can imagine
I hope you feel happy about it.
P.S: I use Sony Xperia M2 Dual D2302.
