Descending ladder when opening inventory

I was building a shaft down towards my mining area, and used ladders on the wall. At one point I was sneaking (aka standing still) in the ladder, and wanted to open my inventory. This led to me descending downwards while the inventory was open. I expected to be standing still.

I'm playing on a Lenovo Tab3 Essential tablet.
