My friend hosts a world that we have been working on for about a week. When I connect to this world I cannot affect anything in the world for a very long time (in minutes); I cannot open chests, use pressure plates to open doors, open doors manually, push buttons, open furnaces, crafting tables. I can mine and place blocks, but either action is erased once this "initialization" period has passed. I can move and see the other player move.
Once past this period, anything I have done is effectively replayed: all of our 10-12 chests will be left OPEN, doors open and shut, blocks I have placed disappear, mined blocks reappear. However, once it passes, I can play the game normally with an acceptable amount of NETWORK lag (I have no issues with framerates). Doors take approx. 40-60ms to open, etc. but overall the game is playable for me.
My friend hosting notices none of these issues. I assume the initialization is like his server sending my client a TON of data, all the while I cannot do anything until some synchronization happens. shrug
This period happens when entering the world from the menus, or re-entering our base from the Nether. It has been so bad that re-entering from the Nether caused me to suffocate in a wall. When this happened, my friend said "you died!" but on my screen I was still alive for several minutes while my health mysteriously disappeared, until eventually I did, in fact, die. However, the death and my dropped objects happened in the Nether, while my death on screen happened on the overworld inside our base.
This has gotten to the point where the game is unplayable for me since I risk dying while entering/returning from the Nether, where we are currently exploring.
I live on the west coast, my friend is east. We both have acceptable internet connections (I have 50/5, he has something like 100/10). Our normal ping to one-another is 60~80ms.
Some description of our world:
-Mostly cobblestone structure with steps, two iron doors + pressure plates to outside with re-entry buttons, second story with ladder access to another cobblestone room containing beds, wooden door into cave, large track travelling to distant cave, nether portal, several furnaces, 10-12 large chests of sorted material with signs indicating their contents, enchantment table surrounded by bookshelves, burning nether wrack and torches for light
-Cattle farm with many sheep, cows, chickens, two horses
-Medium-sized garden with wheat/sugar cane nearby
-Cave entrance from inside the base that is fully explored
-Item frame with a fully zoomed out, cloned indicator map
