When exploring the trial chambers on a realm with my friend today, we noticed that dropped undecorated pots would turn purple (I don't know if decorated versions also turned purple). Both me and my friend at the time saw this and took pictures. Another friend a few hours later noticed they were still purple when dropped as an item on the floor.
