When the mobs that spawn from a trial chamber spawner pick up armor off the floor (most likely a death like in my case) and they die, the armor/weapon(s) that they picked up do not drop and are deleted. This happened to me when I lost a full set of (mostly) enchanted diamond armor and sword.
