I discovered this recently by questioning why it was so difficult to get the "Who Need's Rockets" achievement and it was only when I had my netherite armor off that wind charges started to work as intended. To replicate use a wind charge to jump as high as possible and try to do the same but with full netherite armor. The results should show a higher jump ability without the armor.
