Accidental discovery from me, this bug involves in skin picker automatically applying the selected skin without players pressing "Apply" when returned to Dressing Room menu via "My Character" button, but not back button, this can even result in the game gaslighting players if they selected skins that had unlawful restriction (platform-restriction variable) embedded, and then exiting Dressing Room via "My Characters" button, only to find out that the character "was unlawfully restricted from multiplayer". In the world, the skin does not apply in-game except the one in pause menu (due to fail-secure?).
- I am still sick and tired of platform restriction and gate-keeping (unlawful restrictions) from Nintendo by the way, but this bug more likely makes the game gaslight than being developed as an official workaround (you know, when some bad people restricted people there from going out and then they invented a workaround just to enjoy, but this bug does not seem to be a case).
For "footage-of-gaslight-under-the-bug.mp4", I reproduced the bug on my Nintendo Switch by making the game apply skins from Super Mario Mash-up Pack as done below, and as this was the only official skinpack that still has unlawful restriction (aka. platform restriction) due to it adhering with very outdated licensing rule that are literally gate-keeping, before recording the footage.
Steps to reproduce:
- With Minecraft open, enter Dressing Room
- Click “Create New Character” and create a custom character if the skin’s not created or “Edit Skin” if the skin was created before
- Select Classic Skins icon
- Find and select a skin, but don't apply that as then that is an intended option and we don't want that, the skin can either have unlawful restriction or not.
- Click My Characters icon (as pressing Back will take you back without the game applying the chosen skin in menu)
- Leave the Dressing Room
Expected result: "My Characters" button should re-apply the player-applied skin, thus the skin player have selected should not be applied on it's own, much like the Back button in some case.
Actual result: Although the skin did not apply on Dressing Room, that skin got applied in the menu and while on a world anyways, however if reproduced in a world (with the world open), it does nothing, it does not change the skin in the world you're playing, regardless it has unlawful restriction or not. Speaking of unlawful restriction, if the skin that has one and you returned to Dressing Room menu via "My Character" button instead of Back button from the menu, thus having it applied by the game, you can be gaslit by the popup entering or joining the world saying you would want to switch away (see "footage-of-gaslight-under-the-bug.mp4"), join-in without multiplayer, or cancel joining, regardless the player got gaslit or not, the skin that the player chose (thus applied by the game) is used in the world.
Workaround: Go to Dressing Room (either it's button or pressing "Change Skin" on the pop-up), then switch around (and switch back), make sure the skin you're switching to does not have unlawful restriction.
