The action of a sticky piston retracting a block that is suffocating a mob (in this example a blaze) will pull the mob through the block attached to the sticky piston, and in this case they are pulled outside of the killing area for the blaze farm. In some cases, the mobs are pushed through adjacent blocks before the piston even retracts.
