For more than a year, I can’t see any part of a treasure or regular map when trying to view it in offhand or from hot bar.  First noticed this after using totem of undying in offhand.  Have tried restoring controller settings to default.  Not using any resource packs.  Only using default behavior pack. 
I can craft an empty locator map, but the game screen does not change at all when I try to view it (no player hand visible)  I can find treasure maps in shipwrecks, but have the same problem when trying to view. 
Have resorted to copying game to find treasure chests in creative, then go back to survival to “find” but it’s not as much fun as following a treasure map.

Maps only display geographical outline if I put them in an item frame.
