Description:
Minecraft Ray tracing/RTX Is not available on the win32 release of Minecraft Education edition, Even though there are files such as nvngx_dlss.dll (For NVIDIA's DLSS) and RTXStub.material.bin distributed within the package and this release uses Direct3D12.
Steps to reproduce:
- Get a copy of Minecraft, Education Edition for win32 distributions at education.minecraft.net.
- Logging in isn't required, Click (Try out demo version)
- Go into Settings->Video And scroll down.
- You'll encounter "Ray tracing is not available on this device" Even on RT Capable GPUs.
- If you own Minecraft, Education Edition, Using PBR Resource packs results in a warning that Ray tracing is not available on this device.
Expected results:
Ray tracing being available on this release of Minecraft.
Actual results:
Ray tracing isn't available on this release of Minecraft.
Why should we fix this bug?
Fixing this bug introduces RTX / Ray tracing for users in a wider variety of platforms such as Linux.
Machines tested:
Machine #1:
Operating system: Windows 10
GPU: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000
Machine #2:
Operating system: Arch Linux Rolling
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (With VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11)
Extra notes:
Fixing this bug wouldn't introduce Ray tracing on platforms such as Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Methods to fix this bug:
1. Adding support for DXR within this release of Minecraft.
2. OR Removing files related to Ray tracing within this package.
