If a player tries to log into our realm while any player (including the themself) is holding a level 4 locator map of the area, in either hand, the login fails. The loading screen gets stuck on 'Generating World'. Other players see the character appear, but the owner has no control. Additionally the character doesn't fall if the blocks below them are destroyed. However the character can be killed by mobs, or drowned in water.
This issue happens if the map covers the area that the new player is logging in at, and the player holding the map is also in that area. We've seen this happen if the player logging in is holding the map, or if the map holder is already logged in and another player tries to log in. This issue has been seen on Windows, PS4 and Switch. In one instance, the same player saw the same issue on multiple systems. They were holding a map while trying to login and were unable to on both Windows and PS4.
The only solution we've found if the player logging in is holding a map is to get the character killed so they drop the map.
So far we've only tested this issue while in The End, but I will add comments if we see the issue in the Overworld or Nether as well.
This appears to be related to MCPE-162739, as we are also seeing lag by some players if any player pulls out a locator map that covers the area a player is in.
