The character spawns at the default spawn point with no item as if the character logged on to this world for the first time.

I have a local world that I play with my son.  I start the world and my son joins my world.  When he joined today, he spawned at the default spawn point with no item in his inventory.  I had him leave the world and make sure his account is logged in.  I noticed his avatar was Alex but his name was correct (not Steve).  I then noticed his market place was greyed out.  So, I had him close his application and start it again.  Then his avatar was fine this time and the market place was enabled.  But he still spawned at the default location with no items.

I thought it just is a glitch.  Since I make a backup a few times a day, I just restored the copy from the morning.  But even in this copy, he spawned as a new player with no items and at the default spawn point.  I then tried restoring to the previous day, but he still spawned as a new player.

We've been playing Minecraft for 4 years or so and this never happened.  If there is a way to have him spawn correctly with the items he had when he lasted logged out, that will be great.  If there is anything we can do to prevent this from happening again, that will be nice to know also.
