Dogs following the player down stairs or near stairs may spawn inside of the stairs and suffocate. In this case the stairs are cobblestone stairs. It is most easily reproduced when moving from an outside area and quickly down stairs, into a cave, etc. and stopping near the bottom of the stairs.

This is a new occurrence in version Alpha 0.15.

I have noticed they more often spawn inside of corner stair blocks, where two stairs at 90 degree angles to each other join. But, this may be unique to my particular design, as dogs spawn after you in regular jumps. So, as I tend to stop at the same location, dogs will tend to spawn in this area. I attached a screenshot centering the photo on the most common block at issue. But, this occurs regularly at other areas, also.

It appears to me that the spawning algorithm does not properly consider cobblestone stair blocks as solid blocks and thus spawns the dog inside of the block.

If you can locate the block containing the suffocating dog, and break the block, the dog is liberated.

This is very easily reproduced in my architecture.

I have not tested it for wooden stairs, or stone other than cobblestone.

Please contact me of there are any questions, or if other testing is required to identify or test a fix to this problem.
