A bee nest spontaneously generated on one of my oak trees with the entrance(side with holes) facing the tree.  This rendered it non-functional until I had cleared the exit (immediately after which bees poured out).

The attached screenshot shows the tree in question after I had rearranged it to suit the hive better.
