In 1.7.10 (experimental mode turned on) if you go too far away (more than 163 block) from powdered snow (does not matter if naturally generated, or placed by me) they does not get rendered. 
You can see on the image how ugly the mountains are because of it. I tested it on my xbox too, and it was the same sadly.
