Cave spider’s loot decreases when they are killed on magma blocks. Usually you get around 1-2 string per kill (atleast one, that’s without looting).  When killed on magma blocks they usually drop no string, but from time to time a cave spider drops one string. I have done some testing and this seems to only affect cave spiders.
