The colors of the glowing text overlays are generally too dark, producing too much contrast with the text colors and making the "neon" look impossible.

The duller, darker colors make it seem like the text is not actually glowing. This is more easily seen on the darker colors such as gray and brown.

On Java Edition, the glowing overlays have the same color as the non glowy text, which helps in terms of consistency as well.
