As you can see, the Steve skin does glitch like that randomly in multiplayer when everyone sleep in bed and wake up. (Need to night shift for trigger the glitch) You may not get the glitch first try but it happens. After a few days (in minecraft) the glitch disappears but can trigger again

Update: sleeping its not the only way to trigger it, but i think when a player gets off your vision you can trigger it too (get out of your chunk loading limit, if its 8 chunks then it need to go more than the other player need to go more than 8.)
