The RTX frame rate dropped in Minecraft, starting today. Up until today panning and movement were smooth, frame rate set at 144 Hz. Testing today shows that the effect was persistent before and after loading the latest Nvidia drivers, worse with g-sync turned off, and not an issue on other games. The world is on the hard drive, and exploration has all been within less than a click. Restarting made no difference.
It is now possible to increase the render distance. Whereas the maximum RTX render distance was 8 chunks, recently as I recall, the render distance can now be set much higher. This system has two Nvidia RTX 2080s and NV link, with a RoG 2560 x 1440 gsync display, and was built to minimize bottlenecks.
It seems changes to the available render distance may have degraded the experience. Or perhaps it is something else.

Update: Overcrowded pens appear to be the problem. Outside of "Mincrafting-in-place" homestead, frame rate is not an issue. Time to harvest!
