This is a small bug that I noticed when making a water wheel. When you move while placing a barrel, the texture is showing that the barrel is open but there is no GUI. Then if you pick block on the 'open' barrel, it will appear in the hotbar and other inventories as the open barrel making it seemingly a new block.
