I have had this issue before.   It never used to happen.   Different zoom levels of maps are not lining up correctly.  Every zoom level of the maps corresponds - or should/formerly did correspond to - four sections of the previous (smaller) zoom level.  That is, for a given level 4 map, the four quadrants of said level 4 map should each be represented by a level 3 map.  Placing those level 3 maps in frames used to show a more detailed view of a given level 4 map.  It seems the issue went away, but it’s happening again.

When I start a new world, I’ll open up the provided level 3 starter map.   I’ll then copy it and make a level 4 map out of one of the copies.  I’d explore the entire area of the level 3 map, with said map in one hand, and it would’ve filled out a corresponding quadrant of the level 4 map in the other hand.  I’d then move on to another quadrant of the level 4 map, and explore it with a new level 3 map.  I’d do this until I had fully explored a level 4 map, with four perfectly corresponding level 3 maps.

Now(again!), when I try this, there is no correlation between my location on the level 3 and level 4 maps.  If I were to fully explore a level 4 map(that was copied from the original, provided level 3 map), and three other level 3 maps adjacent to the original, then place the four level-3 maps in frames (appropriate to their world location), they would not depict the same region as the level four map.  This used to not be the case.

I have tried this across multiple seeds, and it does not change.   I tried to recreate the issue  on PS4. I used the same seed and all the same settings.  While the landmasses were shaped differently on PS4, the starting coordinates were exactly the same.  For what that might be worth.  The maps worked/lined up perfectly fine on the PS4.

I couldn’t find the maps from when it was working on Xbox, else I’d have taken pictures of them.  I had to take a picture of a sketch depicting it:  I do have current pictures from both the Xbox (showing level 3 maps misaligned with level 4) and from the PS4 (where they line up correctly).

The first photo(AFFF07865....)is of both the level 3 jand level 4 maps on PS4 in one shot.  The next two are zoomed in separate shots of the maps.  You’ll see that the player indicator is in the upper right of both maps.  I also included virtually identical photos, but where I moved the character off to the side to more clearly show the identical land-masses.  The photos after that are of level 3 and 4 maps on Xbox, one with both maps in one shot, as well as zoomed in photos of the individual maps.  I also have a stand-alone photo of the level 4 map with yellow circles at the four possible areas the player indicator should be if the level 3 map were aligning correctly.   As it stands, though, while I am at the edge of a level 3 map, I am almost dead center in the level 4 map.

The last photo(4390F377....) is a sketch of how they should - and used to - line up with respect to each other.  I would have taken pictures of it in-game, but I couldn’t find my level 3 maps (from when it wad working properly) to place beside the associated level four.
