If hostile mobs die but are not killed by the player, they drop nothing. Dying by sunlight, drowning or falling used to let the mob drop items.
Same goes for iron golems. Only if killed by the player, they drop iron.

In Version 0.11 they used to drop items.

      What I expected to happen:
      The mob to drop items.

      What actually happened:
      The mob didn't drop items.

      Steps to Reproduce in survival:

      1. In survival wait until it gets night and than day again.
      2. Wait for roaming zombies/skeletons to burn to death by sunlight.
      3. look for drops

      Steps to Reproduce in creative

      1. Spawn a hostile mob (zombie/skeleton) with a spawn egg during day
      2. Wait for the mob to die
      3. look for drops
