Sticky pistons next to each other alternating with honey and slime do not pull down consistently

Sometimes sticky pistons do not pull slime blocks as expected.

      Configuration:

I have a sticky piston with 2 slime blocks directly on top and 3 more slime blocks attached on the right to the bottom slime block (picture 1). It then has stone on top of each slime block plus 2 more attached on the front and back of the slime block attached directly to the piston (picture 2). The piston is activated by redstone from a button and consistently pushes everything up and pulls it back done when it is by itself.

      Problem:

When placed beside another sticky piston using honey blocks in the same configuration in place of slime blocks (picture 3), the sticky piston on the right only sometimes pulls the slime block back down.

I wanted to create a repeating pattern of these alternating honey and slime blocks and have them all go up and down together. Instead, they all go up but usually one or more sticky pistons toward the left will randomly not pull down blocks (pictures 4-1 & 4-2). Every so often, they will all pull down the blocks that were previously left hanging in the air. Honey/slime block doesn't seem to matter.
