On Minecraft, I noticed that dogs don’t follow players as well as they did before 1.16.40. Sometimes my dog will walk away from me then come back to me. 

Steps to reproduce:

1. Make a new infinite/old world. 
2. /summon wolf 
3. /give @s bone 8
4. Keep feeding the dog bones until hearts come out of it. 
5. Walk around for a bit. 

Expected results: The dog always follows you.

Observed results: The dog occasionally walks off in its own direction and then goes back to following you.
