Put the summary of the bug you're having here

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected MC, the launcher or the actual program to create a custom directory like I specified, however, it did not and failed to save any world saves or anything, the game also had no sound.

      What actually happened was...:
It did not save, the game had no sound, and the game files in the new custom directory did not create.

      Steps to Reproduce:
Note: I will be using the wildcard <custom> as a custom named directory that does not yet exist.
      1. In the launcher, specify a new custom directory using any version that does not exist.
      2. Launch Minecraft, the icon changes from it's usual icon to 'capture.png'
The game does not save. Any worlds or anything created will not be saved. Sound does not work, and the <custom> directory is not created.
