I clicked on the launcher to open, it updated itself and did not launch the game, no response to subsequent clicks.   Restarted the computer.  Launcher non responsive.  Re-installed Debian version for MC 1.17.  Launcher non responsive.  Removed all instances of MC, tossed any remaining files in the trash, restarted the computer, re-installed MC.  Launcher non responsive.  

No new hardware or software has been added since I played last evening.  The issue began with the launcher update.
