Dogs won't sit or stand unless hit

I Got my xbox one for my birthday a month ago, and purchased Minecraft XB1 edition on Amazon the day after. I started a survival world, and ever since i acquired dogs, i have noticed that when they sit or stood for long periods of time, they wouldn't budge unless i hit them. Of course, this opens the possibility of killing the dog. Please fix this issue.
