In 1.8.9 there was no world border, and past were the world border should be loaded rather odd, mobs seemed to act a little strange and sand seemed to not want to fall after you placed it. Not sure if this is a bug or its meant to be, but it sure is weird. I took some screenshots of what the world looked like when it was loading, random gravel and water was just floating then the world generated to look rather normal. I also saw that structures did generate normally. I also made sure to include screenshots of my XYZ so you could see that I was outside what should have been the world border.
