I was killed by a skeleton on a survival game, so I dropped all my stuff. When I went back to where I died I couldn't see any of the things I dropped but I could still pick them up.

I don't know if it just happens with skeletons or other mobs but what I did was get shot in the head a few times by a skeleton.
