Upon using a Lead that's in your off-hand in Creative Mode, it tries removing the item from your inventory but instead it goes down to 0 and even into the negatives. It's a little difficult to see in the added attachment, but keep an eye on the off-hand item slot (Yes, the ItemStack amount started at 0 because I figured it out just before capturing the GIF).
