Confirmed
If you stack snow layers up to 7/8, you'll be able to place things such as redstone, doors, rails, levers, torches, repeaters etc. on the snow layer. But you can't do that if you stack snow layers up to 8/8. It should't happen and it doesn't look right. With redstone, the 7/8 snow layer "block" works like upside down half slab. You can also place more snow layers on top of this 7/8 "block" with 1/8 block gap. /Screenshots: Using both default texturepack and Faithful 32x32/
It may be present in older versions, such as 1.7
Still an issue as of 1.10.2
