    • Windows 8.0, Tried the old minecraft installer after new minecraft installer failed to help. Java 1.8.040...
    • Unconfirmed

I thought at first it was a minor glitch or something when I entered a server and all my items were shown as invisible. I knew they were invisible and not just missing because when I hover over the inventory slots, it would give me a description of the item in the slot.

I can't see anything in the surrounding environment. Everything is a silhouette. I see walking black players as if everyone turned into endermen. Only the sun and moon are visible, not even torches or glowstones work for light. All buildings and terrain are mere silhouettes.

I went on single player mode, and it was still the same.

I uninstalled, and reinstalled using the old minecraft that uses an older version of Java, and still got the same result.

I tried playing on older versions of minecraft starting from 1.8.3 to 1.7.10.

1.8.3: pitch black, no item description, chat is blank

1.8.2: pitch black, item description available, chat only allows numbers and symbols.

1.8.1 and 1.8.0: pitch black, item description available, chat working fine.

1.7.10: the world is normal until i pick up an item or switch items in inventory and the world goes pitch black again.

1.7.8 and 1.7.9: same as above, except world goes pitch black when item is used.

Haven't tried older versions, mainly because there aren't a lot of servers that optimize the usage of older minecraft versions.
