When you throw a splash potion in F5 mode (pressed twice) the potion gets rendered facing to you.
Futhermore which is really strange, when you throw a splash potion it faces right but when throwing it in the normal perspective, it faces left.
(All directions are like the way you would see it in the first person perspective)
