I tried to make a map covering the maximum area. Initated a map, placed it in the crafting table with paper. Once expanded (1:16) it shows me near the top right hand corner rather than center.

Used Nether portal travel to reach new mapping area.

I started my minecraft world using snapshot 1.8 at the end of July. The original map is normal and centered where I placed it. 1:16 scale

Attempted to recreate my original and the same bug occured. Map not centered on player location.
