Block damage is kept, when not completely breaking block, and can be continued.

      When trying to pick block that you can only reach when jumping, you can damage the block partially, not breaking the block, and the damage is retained/stays when landing. You can within few seconds, jump again and complete break. You can switch to other hotbar items in between.
