Whilst standing in a specific location, ghasts were able to "see" and shoot at me, without a line of sight (assumedly - they were not observable). Moving away from the location caused the ghasts to halt, and standing in the same location allowed the ghasts to shoot again.
After switching resource packs, though, the ghasts no longer responded.
