I was watching Zisteau's latest video, and noticed a strange bug with the chests, so I tested it in my world.

Chests, signs, and Mob Heads (so basically any blocks rendered as a entity) render as invisible through semi-transparent entities.

My guess would be that this has been around awhile, but I can not find a previous bug report.
