When you downgrade from playing in the 11w14b to 1.7.6 or other the items in your inventory are cleared and so are any chests you look in.
When you go back to the newest snapshot, your inventory is still cleared and so are the chests you looked in in 1.7.6 or lower, but the chests you did not still have the same item's as before.
