I think it crashes with both survival and creative, but when I was filming my snapshot video, it crashed on me while I was dropping rapidly. I have provided a link to my video so you can see what happened. Basically it crashes if dropped too fast or maybe it conflicted with the items on the floor. Play around with it and see if you can fix it.
