I've discovered whilst playing on a multiplayer server that runs the new snapshot(14w04b)That certain items do not display their drops, although the drops are still there and can be picked up.

I've narrowed it down to most mobs(all but sheep) and all trees(the saplings that the trees drop aren't displayed)

What I expected to happen was...:
A small 2D representation of the item that should be dropped

What actually happened was...:
There was no item displayed, although I could pick it up.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Summon any mob or grow any tree
2. kill the mob/cut down the tree
3. be amazed
sidenote - this also works with webs, the string doesn't show after breaking.
