Server with teamed NICs using either LACP or strict port trunking
Java 1.7
OS either Server 2008r2 or Ubuntu 12.04 Server

Unconfirmed
I have had issues with clients that would connect and download a small amount of nearby terrain, then stop getting info from the server and eventually dropping off with the ever frustrating Internal exception: io.netty.handler.timeout.readTimeoutexception. I have narrowed the problem down to occurring on servers with teamed NICs. One server was running server 2008r2 and was using an IEEE 802.3ad LAG team. The other server was running Ubuntu 12.0v server as a VM under ESXi. The vm was connected to a pair of NICs using strict teaming. On this server I was able to move the vm to a non-teamed NIC and the problem went away immediately.
