      Description

      Summary

Spawn rates seem lowered significantly for mostly low/mid end machines. This may be why some of the mods/mojang have trouble reproducing the problem.
The issue wasn't present in 1.7.2, so our low/mid end machines can handle normal spawning just fine.

Can't keep up messages are related to the CPU, which sometimes can't keep up with game ticks. This has no effect on spawning, just freezes the game for a bit.
Seems to be only present in singleplayer from personal experience, if I run a server spawning is fine.

When I updated to the new 1.7.4 version of Minecraft It seemed normal. At first I had reasonable spawn rates, but for some reason after a night or two in game I got 5 mobs at most. They're also not spawning in dark areas like they're supposed to. Having both 32 and 64 bit versions of Java doesn't seem to be the issue since I did that months ago to fix a memory issue I was having in the previous version of Minecraft. I have checked my difficulty many times and it is set to hard. Checking entities using F3 confirms that there are little to no mobs spawning in the caves below. Switching the difficulties did not help and new worlds have the same problem. Switching to a flat creative world spawns many mobs during the night but a default creative world has the same effect as a default survival world.Could this be a height issue?
