What I expected to happen was...:

Normally, when you have a stack of items, a number would appear under the item.

What actually happened was...:

When I used the /give command to give myself an item the number appeared for a second, then disappeared.

Steps to Reproduce:

Books have this bug and so do items given with a command (may have been that it had been enchanted)
