Not able to play online

      I just launched Minecraft but it won't let me play online... It keeps saying "Play Offline" so I entered the game, then I tried connecting to a server but it didn't let me

      I'm on Mac running OS X 10.8.5 and Minecraft Launcher 1.2.4
